Conscious Discipline® Introduction and Implementation  img_26261

Through slide and video presentation, discussion, interactive role play, music, movement and reflective processes, participants actively learn about the brain and human behavior. Teachers experience for themselves the positive effects of Brain SmartTM routines, “connecting” activities and conscious use of language which they, in turn, can model for the children. This encourages building the School FamilyTM which includes all members of the learning community in contributing, caring for and celebrating each other.   Make-and-Take of classroom props and teaching tools further promote ownership of new strategies.

  • Follow-up Sessions        Making a permanent shift in the approach to conflict takes place over time with support and practice .  Follow-up trainings foster the Seven Powers of Self-Control and the Seven Skills of Conscious Discipline® to promote profound and lasting positive change by reviewing information in stages, with intervals allowing for learning tasks and completion of training objectives.. For example, participants will create class books (Children modeling Stress Release, Ways to be Helpful, Daily Routines, Problem-solving Stories and step-by-step I Love You Rituals booklets) that will serve both as a resource for their own classes  as well as for parents and the learning community.    Several models can be discussed to determine what will be most helpful.
  • Additional support can be provided with classroom visits during daily routine to observe, model-teach and problem-solve with teaching teams.         These visits will be by request of a teacher or group of teachers, with the schedule arranged to apply mentoring time to implementation goals.

MaterialsSelection of materials to be determined in final planning.   Quality texts and audio CD-lectures by Dr. Becky Bailey, music CD’s and classroom materials are available to support Conscious Discipline® instruction and practice. A Conscious Discipline® teacher manual is recommended for each teacher or classroom along with a choice of music to promote connection and role play. The Shubert series of children’s books further complements the program as problem-solving and kindness are depicted in Shubert’s classroom family. Dr. Bailey’s book for parents, “Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline” supports parent training. A school lending library will make lecture cd’s and other texts available to teachers.
